The Woven Ellen Hat

 In Patterns

Great pleasure comes from creating something simple yet beautiful.

It’s been on my mind to make a wonderful soft and enjoyable, yet super fast and simple hat. A hat we all can all enjoy. The perfect project and the perfect gift. Something for guys and gals, one size fits most, easy to wear and completely loveable.

Ellen hat by The Woven

Easy. All I had to do was look at this delicious soft roving yarn, Super Soft & Chunky and it all fell into place!

Super Soft and Chunky Cream

If you haven’t met this yarn, allow me to introduce you. It is a blend of NZ wool and Alpaca. So so so soft and full, simply wonderful yarn that just needs to be enjoyed.

So with this stunning yarn, I have created a simple and fast knitting hat that is suitable for beginners. My hope is that you not only make this for yourself but enjoying creating this for your friends and loved ones. Based on this I have created a range of knits called I Made It with this Ellen Hat being the first in the series.

This pattern is for beginners up, comfortable with knit, purl, cast on and basic shaping (knit two together K2tog and purl two together P2tog)

This pattern was developed by Michelle Stewart aka Mitzy Moo Knits

Hope you enjoy our new pattern 🙂

THE WOVEN # I MADE IT ELLEN HAT

Materials

10 mm circular on 60cm

1 x ball Super Soft & Chunky (shown in Cream)

Round marker

Sewing needle to finish ends

Pattern

Cast on:

Using 10mm cast on 48 stitches and join in the round. I enjoy using the long tail cast on to give structure yet stretch the edging. When you join them in the round for the first time, you might need to work the cable to help the ends meet. (As a guide refer to Laura’s Loop Method, the trick is to pull a loop of cable between two stitches to make the round reach.)

Main Section:

Rib 23 rounds of K2 P2

Top Shaping:

  1. K2 P2 K2 P2tog around Ellen hat by The Woven
(around means repeating this sequence around the round)
(P2tog = purl two stitches together to make one)
  2. K2 P2 K2 P1 around
(if you are worried you are low on yarn this row is optional)
  3. K2 P2tog K2 P1 around
  4. K2 P1 k2tog P1 around
(K2tog = knit two stitches together to make one)
  5. K2tog P1 K1 P1 around
  6. K1 P1 K1 P1 around
(if you are worried you are low on yarn this row is optional)
  7. K2tog around
  8. Thread yarn through remaining 12 stitches and pull tight

Finishing:

The Woven Super Soft and Chunky CreamWeave in ends, voila

Feedback welcome 🙂
